Bio-Pharmaceutical Manufacturing facilities inherently deal with hazardous materials and environments and it is imperative that the design of the facility protect the people working there. There are many layers and levels of protection that are needed through codes and standards, which makes it hard to navigate the best solution for each case. This interactive panel discussion will discuss a risk based approach to evaluate protections and review lessons learned on recent projects. Interactive polling software will facilitate an open discussion with panelists representing life safety, process, and mechanical perspectives. The panelists will discuss an approach to identify risks, rank the risks, and evaluate the best protection based on the level of risk. A selection of case studies can be selected by the audience to walk-through a risk based approach, code interpretations, and lessons learned.

Objective

  1. Objective 1. Learn what codes and guidelines outline the requirements for facilities with hazardous materials. Understand the approach and tools that can be used to evaluate the risk 2. Understand how to protect the operators through procedural controls, engineering controls, and Personnel Protection (PPE). 3. Understand that even though a hazardous material is contained the facility must still protect the operator from leaks and spills through room containment and HVAC design.
