During product planning, you must acknowledge the uncertainty associated with the risks in your operating climate. Assessing these risks and how they manifest is vital to the success of a product launch. One misstep could cost months in engineering and production time. You can minimize uncertainty by gaining knowledge and understanding of the quality approach in controlling risk. Only a team interface can define the context in which the risks are identified, analyzed, and controlled. The team should understand that the context may change and that decisions should be reassessed accordingly. This means the interface team must plan for quality risk management (QRM) by: • Identifying and bridging gaps impeding realization of a mature interface state. • Mastering the two forms of QRM-continuous QRM and risk-informed decision making. • Planning for appropriate communication to execute a successful transition to QRM. Always communicate with purpose.
