Firouz Asgarzadeh, Ph.D. is founder of OSD Pharmaceutical Solutions LLC (an independent consulting firm) which provides formulation and process development services to pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Asgarzadeh has over 29+ years of global R&D and commercial experience in leadership roles managing large teams. He is a key opinion leader (KOL) in formulation development, modified release coating, solubility enhancement (Melt Extrusion and Spray-Drying), oral/injectable dosage product development, polymer synthesis and polymer processing.
Prior to OSD Pharmaceutical Solutions, he was Senior Vice President of Pharmaceutics at BioDuro where he shaped the technical business development vision for the company. He managed and coached formulation, analytical and process development teams developing conventional oral solids as well as complex dose development using spray drying, hot melt extrusion and modified release technologies.
Prior to joining BioDuro, he was Director of Technical Services, North America at Evonik for over 10 years, establishing contract service laboratories and leading modified release and Solubility Enhancement formulation and application teams.
He also managed university relationships and organized seminars and webinars attended by thousands of scientists, students, managers, and directors.
He was Principal Scientist at Merck (Schering-Plough) and Senior Scientist at Catalent Pharma Solutions (Cardinal Health) where he developed several early and late stage oral commercial solid and lipid based products
Dr. Asgarzadeh was past chair for Contract Research Organization (CRO) focus group, past chair for Excipient Focus Group (EFG) and Co-Chair of QbD focus groups at AAPS.
Dr. Asgarzadeh earned his Ph.D. in Polymeric Materials and Composites from Université Claude Bernard (Lyon I), France in 1999. He also has master’s degrees in physical chemistry of Molecular and Macromolecular Materials from Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg I), France and Polymer Engineering from Polytechnic University, Tehran, Iran.
