INTERPHEX created a quick questionnaire to learn more about SKAN US, Inc. In this exhibitor spotlight, Les Edwards, answers our questions.

INTERPHEX: - How has the industry changed/evolved?

As the industry had evolved with more complex drugs and biologics, the burden for innovating and keeping on the leading edge of technology has grown. Speed is always a great challenge with the desire to get the right products in the hands of users as soon as possible, but we always remember that our customers need not only the equipment but the technical know-how that we have to support successful implementation.

INTERPHEX: - What is your company’s biggest success thus far?

SKAN’s first integration of an H2O2 decon with our isolators in 1995 was a key success, not just for the technical achievement, but for the realization that isolators were an integral part of the aseptic process and not just a box around it. This led to new science and advancements in technology and understanding of new applications.

INTERPHEX: - What distinguishes your company from others in the industry?

SKAN’s focus is not only about new technology and innovation leadership, but also in the application and servicing of new equipment. This is especially critical when pushing the technological curve forward – with good training and service, challenges can be overcome and new innovations can be adopted more effectively and efficiently. That is one key reason why SKAN has invested so heavily in a service support infrastructure at SKAN US to serve North America.

INTERPHEX: - Where do you see the industry going in the next 10 years?

SKAN continues to see growth in our core business with the conversion from traditional cleanroom-based aseptic processing to advanced aseptic processing with isolators. This is even more dramatic with the advent of smaller and flexible aseptic processing in isolators.

INTERPHEX: - What advice would you give to a professional starting out in the industry that you wish you would have known?

The best advice that I can give to a new professional in this industry is “be curious”. Learn the “HOW” about new technologies and innovations, but more importantly, learn WHY things are done. This will give you a foundation to understand and innovate.

INTERPHEX: - Can you describe how you have grown your business at INTERPHEX events?

When I came to SKAN US in 2011, SKAN had only a 10x10 booth and a basic backdrop. Today, SKAN has a 20x40 booth and brings 4 process equipment items, participates in technology tours and INTERPHEX Live presentations. We are deeply engaged in the INTERPHEX experience and our business has grown dramatically as well. SKAN regards INTERPHEX as the premier North American trade show for display our current products and launching our new product and technology innovations.
