O’Hara and AZO To Exhibit More Technology at INTERPHEX 2015

04/17/2015

NEW YORK, NY; APRIL 17, 2015 – International Pharmaceutical Expo (INTERPHEX), sponsored by Parenteral Drug Association (PDA), the premier industry event dedicated to showcasing pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical innovation, technology and knowledge today announced O’Hara Technologies Inc., a leading manufacturer of solid dosage processing equipment, and AZO. Incorporated, specializing in the automated handling of large, medium and small components in granular, powder and liquid forms, will both be exhibiting MORE technologies at INTERPHEX 2015 taking place April 21-23 at the Javits Center in New York.

O'HaraO’Hara Technologies Inc. (OTI) is a recognized leader and expert in tablet coating technologies for the pharmaceutical industry. They supply machines ranging in size from small scale laboratory / R&D models to pilot scale lab models to full production batch models and continuous production models. Their advanced technology in continuous coating processes significantly shortens the production cycle time as well as improving process productivity. This is achieved through a shallower pan bed depth, a larger number of spray guns across the tablet bed and faster coating which provides a noticeable improvement in the coating uniformity in medium and high volume applications. Complementing the product offering is their advanced containment coating technology that can be added to most of their systems to enable companies to process tablets with highly potent API’s in a cost effective manner.  Learn more about what technologies they are exhibiting.

Azo“AZO is featuring a new special process, ViwateQ® Finish, that achieves ideal results between totally smooth and an acceptable degree of surface roughness for stainless steel that improves the overall cleanability of the equipment,” said Joseph M. Schobel, Director, AZO Business Unit-Food & Vital. “This new cleaning process reduces the risk of unwanted contact corrosion that occurs under dirt and keeps bacteriological contamination at a minimum.”

ViwateQ® Finish results in a uniform surface finish. This involves roughening surfaces that are too smooth (e.g. 2B mill finish sheets with 0.2 µm) to 0.35 µm, on the one hand, thus reducing adhesive forces. On the other hand, polished surfaces with Ra < 0.8 µm are improved in this process. After treatment with ViwateQ® Finish, the surface is considerably better in terms of cleaning results than surfaces with values of Ra < 0.8 µm that have merely been polished. ViwateQ® Finish removes the oxide film and all unwanted impurities simultaneously, including the erosion points in the welds area. ViwateQ® Finish does not damage the surface; however it smoothens and at the same time removes sharp points, which results in a better access to the deeper valleys for cleaning. A rippled pattern occurs, a type of lotus effect.  Immediately after treating the surface with ViwateQ® Finish, a new oxide layer is formed through natural passivation in the atmosphere.  ViwateQ® Finish is a physical treatment of the surface using a mixture of water and other components under high pressure.
